Château de Caraguilhes

The Château de Caraguilhes is located on the terroir of Boutenac, one of the best in Languedoc and Appellation Corbières. The estate of the Castle of Caraguilhes was created by the Cistercian monks.
The vineyard of Château de Caraguilhes consists of 100 hectares in one piece, surrounded by 500 hectares of scrubland. The garrigue forms around the vineyard a grandiose and natural circus that protects the cultivable land. Never broken up during the course of history, the Château de Caraguilhes has remained intact and has preserved its integrity and authenticity.
Centuries later, in 1958, Lionel Faivre, a well-established winegrower in Algeria, took charge of Caraguilhes with the objective of perpetuating the tradition of the property and making an authentic wine, mirror of its soil. Lionel was then a pioneer in the introduction of organic vineyard cultivation using sustainable organic techniques. His refusal to use chemical fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides was not understood at the time. Almost 30 years later, he completed the evolution of Château de Caraguilhes by adopting a fully organic production method.
In 1998, Lionel, unable to manage the Château de Caraguilhes, regretfully decided to sell his vineyard. He meets Pierre Gabison and a partner and is convinced that their partnership can succeed in bringing the proud tradition of a biological quality production philosophy, begun 40 years ago.
In 2005, Pierre Gabison, deeply in love with the wines of Château de Caraguilhes and the region, took over the management of the estate. He wishes to continue the passion that prevails around the vineyard and Château de Caraguilhes.
