Château Des Estanilles

Between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Cevennes and Espinouse, countries of Herault, the Château des Estanilles is installed in the hamlet of Lenthéric, municipality of Cabrerolles, one of the seven villages of the AOC Faugères.
The vineyard of Château des Estanilles, hillside, covers 35 hectares, 300 m altitude on some of the finest vineyards in the appellation; the Estagnols and Fontanilles plots are behind the domain name.
In summer, the vineyard of Château des Estanilles is easily recognizable, size cordon royat the trellising well ordered with a significant height of foliage allows each sheet to capture maximum sunlight to return the then noble tannins and aromas stored in every grain of each cluster.
At Château des Estanilles we have always been close to the bio ethics. We never used herbicides or chemical fertilizers. We practice sustainable viticulture, with minimal, in the vineyard as in the winery, inputs. Since 2008 we are Bio certification. In 2010, we became a farm benefiting from AB organic farming label.
One of the known characteristics of the terroir is its high density of sandstone shale and its distance from urban areas. These gray shale, blue, yellow or ocher were formed from clay of marine deposits. The Castle of Estanilles is anchored on land among the oldest in the world, who have experienced extreme events compression to primary geological era during the time of the Ordovician era, there are about 500 million years. Aridity forces the vines to tap water reserves deep in the basement, making it very sensitive to water stress in dry seasons. The environment of the Castle of Estanilles preserved and open to the north winds as much as those coastal mitigates heat during ripening grape berries. This is a decisive factor for the conservation of aromatic freshness and taste of wines. Soil composition is also an advantage. The strong presence of shale reinforces the cooling sensation when tasting and gives the wine a great aging potential.
As nature is well made, this freshness is timely counteract a desirable characteristic terroir predominantly schist, sweet night restitution of heat stored during the day.
