In Roman times, a legionnaire named Maximus moved to the location of the field to which he gave the name of Maximiana, became Massamier today. His story is essentially linked to the Minervois since the first written mentions that the Pagus Menerbensis (Minervois) date 836 and reports a dispute about territory delimitations of Maximiana.
Castle Massamier The Mignarde has a well grouped plot does not exclude a variety of exhibitions, soils and landforms: mounds or mourels on calcareous sandstone dating from the beginning of the Tertiary period; these shallow soils and poor are occupied by Mediterranean varietals: Grenache and Cinsault. Then the old terraces coarse alluvium, backed Black Mountain, who support the most demanding grape varieties such as Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan.
