Bergerie De L'Hortus

Small winemaker son, convinced that it could produce great wines in the Languedoc and a fierce desire to make a return to the land, Jean and Marie-Thérèse, settled in the valley of Fambétou, located between the mountains of Pic Saint Loup and Hortus the Sheepfold in the early 70s.
Valley of wild beauty, deserted since the end of the war, everything is there to build: to clear the impossible terrain, rocky slopes and terraces abandoned, we must also build chai and dwelling house. And with a desire to conqueror and not a sou in his pocket the adventure begins.
At the beginning only 4 hectares are cleared and planted in AOP Pic Saint Loup. In order to become familiar with this unknown land, John does vinified her first wine 15 years later, for the 1990 vintage.
Together the vineyard, house and cellars are built. Everything is built in a style that blends the architectural avant-garde to the Scots tradition.
It's gradually as her four children will come back on the property each bringing their personality and experiences.
Today with its production on three colors: white, red and rosé wines with its ownership of the Hortus Estate and its wines from the vineyards of Domaine but also carefully selected wines from neighboring winegrowers (the Sheepfold Hortus), the name of the Hortus has gained worldwide fame.
