Château Cazal Viel

It is considered that the Languedoc vineyards is one of the oldest in France because the vine is cultivated since ancient times.
It was the Romans who discovered the richness of the soil of Château Cazal Viel and were the first to introduce the cultivation of vines. The remains of two villas and a well 2,000 years old, demonstrate their activity here, encouraged by the development of the Domitian.
Coveted in the Middle Ages, Château Cazal Viel was the subject of bitter struggles between the bishops of Narbonne and those of Montpellier. From 1202, the field is operated by the monks of the Abbey of Fontcaude, until the French Revolution. The property of the clergy are then confiscated and sold. In 1791, Château Cazal Viel becomes the property of the Miquel family.
Today, Château Cazal Viel is the largest independent domain of the Saint-Chinian. Cultivated with passion by Henri and his son Laurent 8th generation winemaker, these poor land give birth to great wines Appellation Saint Chinian and exceptional white.
At planting vineyards, it is essential to have a density and appropriate behavior, noble grape varieties (Syrah our vineyards are among the oldest in the region) and an exceptional wine. We use reasoned farming methods.
We practice deliberately very low yields, on the whole vineyard. Finally constant vigilance, increased during the harvest, enables us to attend to every detail that could influence the high level of quality desired.
We are convinced that the marriage of very poor soils and old vines gives a "typical" and finesse to the wines of Château Cazal Viel.
